Roy and Diana Gibson, of Rigby, will be celebrating their 60th wedding anniversary on March 28 with a gathering of family and friends in South Carolina, where their daughter Aimee Smith resides.
The two were married on March 28, 1964 and solemnized their vows three years later on March 4, 1967 at the Oakland, California Temple for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. After their marriage, they lived in several places due to Roy’s involvement in the U.S. Navy from 1961 to 1981.
Those places included Norfolk, Virginia; Vallejo, California; Imperial Beach, California; San Diego, California; Idaho Falls and Rigby.
Following his time in the Navy, Roy worked for Yost Business systems from 1982 until his retirement in 2015. He has been a part of the Veterans of Foreign wars, serving as Commander in Jefferson County for five years. He also, at one point, became an honorary member of The Girl Scouts.
He taught Sunday School for his church and became a Home Teacher as well, and was called to be the Elder’s Quorum President. His hobbies have included camping and reading.
Diana worked for Riverview Hospital through all of it’s name changes until it became Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center, as well as King’s store on 17th Street in Idaho Falls.
For twenty years, Diana volunteered as a Girl Scout Leader and became involved with the Ladies of the VFW of which she is currently the president in Jefferson County.
For her church, Diana has been a visiting teacher, a youth counselor, nursery director, librarian, Stake Camp Director, camp crafter leader for both stake and ward, Relief Society president, Relief Society Counselor and Quilting Chairman.
Her hobbies have included sewing, camping, gardening and attending Temple.
Together, Diana and Roy have four children; Theresa (Paul) Wasson of Zion, Illinois, Katy (Kenneth) Crimm of Millport, Alabama, Aimee (Tim) Smith of Gaffney South Carolina and Pam Gibson of Battlecreek, Michigan.
From their children they have 11 grandchildren and six great-great grandchildren.
