Jefferson Joint School District #251 has named Ty Shippen as the new Athletic Director following current Athletic Director Justin Jones’ recent resignation from the position, according to a press release from the district on April 11.
According to the release, Shippen has a background in both athletics and education and was a multi-sport athlete at Rigby High School in his youth, playing football, basketball and baseball. Shippen has played collegiate basketball and has over 20 years of experience in coaching multi-sports.
Shippen received an Educational Specialist Degree in Executive Ed Leadership from Boise State University and has coached at Skyline and Minico High Schools. He has also served at Athletic Director for Minico High School, which allowed him to cultivate relationships with the Idaho High School Activities Association (IHSAA) and with other directors across the state, the release states.
“Together with Ty and our dedicated coaches and supportive community, we are confident that we will continue to uphold Rigby’s legacy of athletic excellence,” said Superintendent Chad Martin in the press release.
District 251 opened the Athletic Director position after Justin Jones posted his resignation from the position in early March.
The post, which was shared on the Rigby Athletics Facebook page, stated he would remain in the position until the end of the current academic year after seven years as Director.
Although Jones is stepping down as director, Martin stated he will remain in the district as a coach and teacher.
