The city of Rexburg issued a statement Tuesday morning reminding citizens of protocol associated with the new temporary light fixtures near Highway 20 exit 333 on Main Street.
The statement reminds residents that when any traffic light is out entirely, it should be treated as a four-way stop. This reminder is following recent power outages that have occurred in the area.
"Additionally, a flashing red light means stop," the statement said. "You must come to a complete stop, yield to oncoming traffic or pedestrians as you would at a four-way stop, and then proceed when clear."
The city linked the Idaho Driver's Handbook for additional answers to questions residents may have about new protocols taking place due to construction in town. The instructions the city has reminded citizens of can be found on pages 54 and 75 at https://itd.idaho.gov/wp-content/uploads/2016/06/driver_manual.pdf.
On March 12, the city took to social media to inform citizens that the temporary light fixtures were officially up and active.
"Be sure to obey these signals, just as you would any ordinary traffic light," the statement said.Â
The Madison County Sheriff's Office also took to social media to advise individuals driving in the area to be prepared.Â
"Please put a little extra patience in your pockets," the statement said. "Please use extra caution when you are driving through the area ... no one wants to get in an accident."
