DUBOIS — Water was released into the ditches around Dubois last week. It was needed to fill up the city’s pond south of town for a water test.
Coaches for the Flag football program met on March 16. They are gearing up for a fun season. Student athlete registration took place on March 20. Practices will begin on April 11. Contact Ashley Alvarez for more info and / or to volunteer as a coach or referee by emailing ashalvarez27@gmail.com
Bobcat track and field for the high school athletes has begun. Their next meet is the Sugar Salem Invitational on April 5.
Mike Miller, the DARE (Drug Abuse Resistance Education) officer/teacher for Clark and Jefferson counties, hosted an assembly on March 19. It was held at the West Jefferson gym that morning. Porter Ellett, an Assistant Coach (Running Back Coach) for the Kansas City Chiefs, was the guest speaker. Clark County health teacher Lorri Clark said of Ellett, “He had an amazing story to teach us how to overcome obstacles we may be faced with!” Students met with Ellett, had photos taken with him, saw Super Bowl winner rings that he has, and got his autograph.
Clark County 4-H programs are underway. There have been art project classes and meetings for Livestock projects. Stop in at the University of Idaho extension office that is in the City/County Annex Building in Dubois to find out more of the local 4-H happenings.
Jake Irick of Spencer is once again the supervisor for Clark County Road and Bridge. He had accepted a job and gone to work in Alaska. He traveled to and from there to home in Spencer on a regular basis. Now he is back in our county to work.
Kelley and Cade May of Spencer are expecting a baby boy in May. There was a baby shower for her with family and friends in their former city of residence, Boise. It was held on March 16. Treva May of Spencer, paternal grandmother, attended the shower.
A group of Clark County High School Class of 2023 graduate, other graduates and current students hung out together at a local gathering place on March 17. In the group that day were Ivan Perez, Kenna Dory, Jori Haroldsen, Melanie Deal, Yessica Ruiz, and Jenny Ruiz. Some of them had been on Spring Break from Idaho State University.
Valeri and Eric Steigerwald of Dubois hosted a St. Patrick’s cookout at their home on March 17. Family and friends attended and spent time outdoors and ate a meal filled with green foods.
Michele VanBeek and McKenzie Sonnek of Orange, Iowa, were in our area last week. They were here to work with other employees at the mineral mine. It’s located at Lidy Hot Springs which is west of Dubois.
Allen Laird of Dubois took a day long road trip to Philipsburg, Montana on March 19. He visited his brother Rob Laird and spent time with Rob’s cat, Cooper. Allen said that Cooper greeted him “with friendliness, charm, and playful biting. He even jumped into my lap.”
Steve and Bev Gilger of Dubois spent time last week in Lava Hot Springs. They purchased an “Experience” gift certificate at the rodeo club Valentine’s Dinner. So they made use of it and had a relaxing getaway before they begin lots of hard work in Kilgore.
Mud Lake Telephone Cooperative announced the winners of their phone book cover photo contest. First place winner is Kim Christensen Korn with her photo of Mud Lake entitled “Reflections”. The second place winner is Lisa Ward with her photo of a herd of bull elk entitled “Endurance”.
Orvin Twitchell, a U. S. Veteran who lived in Mud Lake, passed on March 8. He was involved with Clark County in several ways. He took part in events with U. S. Military Veterans. He was a well-known character at the monthly food bank distribution in Dubois. He also has a grandson who married a girl from Spencer! There was a graveside service in his memory on March 22.
An Idaho Fish and Game news release states, “Idaho Fish and Game Upper Snake Region is working with the Bureau of Land Management to implement prescribed burns across a large portion of the Market Lake Wildlife Management Area (WMA) located in eastern Idaho north of Roberts. Depending on weather fuel conditions, the prescribed burns will take place over a few days sometime between March 25 and April 12. Much of the WMA will be closed to public access during the burn period. For everyone’s safety, please obey all area closure signs.”
The Annual Dubois Lions Club Easter Egg Hunt is set for March 30 at the Dubois Community Building. It begins promptly at 10 a.m.
Clark County Planning and Zoning will have their monthly meeting in Dubois on March 28 at 7 p.m.
Jon and Sheree Farr of Dubois are proud to announce that their son-in-law Joe Carter received his family medicine residency assignment. He and his wife Mariah, along with their daughters Emma and Sadie, will be leaving Alabama to go to Anderson, South Carolina. He will do his residency there in Anderson, SC.
Clark County Emergency Services (EMS) continues their EMT classes. They will be finished with them at the end of April. A training for EMS and dispatch is scheduled for April 15. There will be practice calls for training purposes.
”Walk in the Cold”, a 5k run/walk was held in Idaho Falls on March 23. It is an annual event that helps support the Idaho Falls Rescue Mission. This year’s event was held in memory of Pastor Warren Cuppy, former pastor of the Dubois Community Baptist Church who passed away last month.
Dubois Community Baptist Church will have an Easter breakfast and service on March 31. Breakfast is at 9 a.m. and worship time is at 10 a.m.
Beaver Creek Ward of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in Dubois will have a one hour service on Easter Sunday.
