Eighth grader wins geography bee
Gavin Nelson, an eighth grader at Rigby Middle School, has won the school’s National Geography Bee and qualified for the state competition March 31 at Brigham Young University-Idaho.
Geography bees tests students on their knowledge of the world around them. According to the National Geographic Society, the contest is open to students in grades 4 through 8.
One champion from each state and territory will advance to the National Geographic Bee Championship, which will be held May 14-18 at the National Geographic Society headquarters in Washington, D.C. Transportation and accommodations for the Washington, D.C. trip are provided for each state champion and one parent/guardian.
Gavin is the son of Lynn and Marianne Nelson, of Rigby.
